When most people think of blackout curtains, generally the concept of style is not of importance. However, these items; despite the fact they are used mainly for their functionality, do act as a dominant visual stimulant to the space. As such, it is important to ensure you find a specific style of blackout drapery that will meld well with the pre-existing accessories in your space to avoid any unwanted styling clashes that might occur otherwise.
There are various types of shutters and the best alternative to wooden is use of vinyl shutters. Vinyl shutters are basically made up of plastic and they give different feel yet serve same purpose. In other words, they are inexpensive and can completely give you the feeling of wooden shutters. You do not have to spend a lot of money after wooden shutters when you are getting something at a very low price. Traditional wooden shutters had different value and vinyl wood shutters have different value. Whatever the reason is, these both materials play a crucial role in beautification of your room.
Children's rooms are also good candidates for curtains over draperies, although you still want to make sure you adorn any windows with fire retardant fabrics. While draperies are more expensive than curtains, there is still quite a bit of difference in the prices and features so if you are on a budget, look carefully to see how you can save money on draperies. Obviously, the custom made draperies will cost more than stocked sizes.
One thing we should remember though when shopping for draperies and its hardware is to decide whether we want them decorative or functional. When we shop, we think of whether what we're buying is cheap or expensive. However, we have to realize that as long as we go for quality, something, which may seem expensive now is actually cheap in the long run. So let's talk about what consists of drapery hardware. First we have the curtain pole or rod. Like all the other drapery hardware, the curtain pole or rod can come in materials like wood, chrome, and plastic. This is where you attach the ringers for the curtain. So the main purpose of this hardware is for support. They can come in the form of regular rods, hinged rods and motorized rods.
Draperies can be purchased either ready made, semi custom, or custom. Ready make are best if you need it up now. There is a large selection and ship quickly. They are alto the most economically priced. They usually come in sized to fit most common size windows, Next is semi custom. On semi custom the width is fixed and the length is make to your measurements, maximum is about 120 inches. This is a good choice if you have high windows, or if you want your draperies to puddle (form soft folds on the floor).
If your using a decorative rod, poke the pin in at 1-1/2 inches from the top. If non-decorative white traverse rod, then make it 1-3/4 to 2 inches from the top. Depending on how the drapery is packaged, most likely it will have wrinkles. I recommend steaming out the wrinkles after the panels are hung. A portable hand held steamer works well and is what I use. Follow the manufactures recommendations as some fabric especially silk, cannot be steamed. Lastly, after you steam, you want to train your fabric to hang nice. Some fabric looks great out of the package, but most do not. They need a little extra work, but its worth the results. What you can do is tie the fabric. First cut 3, 4 foot long strips of plastic about 4 inches wide.
