Obviously, the colour and pattern of your draperies should never be underestimated. Most decorators will try to match some of the colours in fabrics of furniture or the carpet, or even the paint or wallpaper to the colours in the draperies. Often, we want at least one or two colours to bring a room together and your draperies are an integral component of the flow of your room. A room with dark furniture and carpets may best be served by darker coloured curtains. Alternatively, flowery curtains and drapes can add a vibrant dimension to any room that will totally change the mood.
Disposable garbage bags work well. Then fan fold a panel and tie a strip of plastic at the bottom to hold the fan in place. Tie another strip about 1-1/2 feet above that and one more about 3 to 4 feet above the bottom. Repeat on all panels. Leave it like this for about 2 weeks. When you take it off the strips of plastic, the pleats will be nice and uniform. I hope this sheds a little light on selecting draperies. Good luck and I'm sure your drapes will look beautiful.
Choosing drapery rods is just as much fun as choosing the draperies or curtains you will adorn your windows with. Drapery Rods can dress up inexpensive window treatments to create a truly elegant look and the choices are wide and varied. Whether you are making or buying your window treatments, you will need drapery hardware to attach the curtains or drapes over the windows. Whether you use a lone curtain rod or embellish the look with tie-backs and finials, there are several pieces of drapery hardware you should become familiar with. In addition, you can accent other parts of the room and your entire home with leftover drapery hardware as well. Let's look at some of the types of drapery hardware you may need to consider.
Drapery hooks are a simple yet important accessory for your overall window treatment arrangement. However, despite their important functionality to the style attributes they offer; these seemingly minute drapery accessories tend to get overlooked by many. With the large amount of different accessories being offered in items that serve the same functionality, particularly drapery rings, it is no wonder these diamonds in the rough have gotten lost over the years. The drapery hook is fairly simple in design; offering the simple functionality of connecting the drapery itself to the curtain rod. However, while in fact the overall functionality is a simple concept, and there might not be a large amount of room in terms of variations and customizations; drapery hooks can still play an important supplemental role in the styling of your drapery set.
Decide how often you're going to open and close your drapery. If you're going to frequently open and close your drapes (also called traversing your draperies), then you'll probably want to choose a traverse style drapery rod. This style of curtain rod has cords that allow you to open or close your drapery easily. Traverse rods can open from the middle, or they can open from one side or the other. The way the drapery opens is called the draw. Split draw traverse rods open from the middle, one-way traverse rods open from either the left or right side.
Drapery provides intimacy and regulates the volume of natural light inside a room. Choosing the right kind of drapery in your room can be sometimes confusing. Drapery can either subtly blend into your room's background or downright make an impact and statement in the room. The drapes you use will often times reflect your personality.
